Understanding the UCAS Application System: A Step-by-Step Guide
1/4/2026By Admissions Expert

UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is the centralized service used to apply to almost all full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities.

The 5 Choice Rule

Through UCAS, you can apply for up to five courses. These can be five different universities or multiple courses at the same institution (though this is often discouraged). For Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science, you are limited to four choices.

The Personal Statement

This is your chance to shine. In exactly 4,000 characters (or 47 lines), you must convey your passion for the subject, your relevant experience, and why you are a great fit for the course.

Important Deadlines

  • October 15: Deadline for Oxford, Cambridge, and most Medicine courses.
  • January 29: Equal consideration deadline for most other courses.
  • June 30: Final date for late applications.

Unity Group's mentors provide expert review of your UCAS personal statement, helping you stand out from thousands of global applicants.
